Sarah and Archie were married at Greyleigh, Kiama on the seventh of September, a soft, overcast spring day on the NSW South Coast. Blossom was out on the trees and wisteria hung off the verandah. The kind of light that does nothing loud and everything well.

I photographed the day the way I photograph all of them. Unposed, close, and led by what was already happening.

The morning was quiet. Sarah stepped into a low-backed silk gown by the window while her mum did up the last of the buttons. Down the hall Archie's linen jacket hung against a wall of books, waiting. On a side table, the invitation, two rings, a pair of heels. Their two bands ended up hooked over a blossom branch outside, gold and black against the white flowers, which is the sort of small thing I'll always stop for.

Then the ceremony, and an exit through a storm of confetti. The two of them came down the aisle hand in hand, heads down, laughing, everyone they love throwing petals at them. No one had to be told to feel anything.

Portraits at Greyleigh are easy, because the grounds carry them. We walked the lawn in front of the old pink barns while Archie laid out Sarah's train, the wisteria behind them. Her bridesmaids, seven of them in blush, linked arms and laughed their way across the grass. At one point Archie lifted Sarah clean off her feet against the stone wall and the paddocks beyond, both of them cracking up. That was the moment for me.

The reception let go completely. Sarah and Archie sharing a microphone in the middle of the floor. Ice creams handed around in the dark, sunglasses on, no one sitting down. It was warm and loud and theirs.

I'm Andre, a documentary wedding photographer based in Wollongong, a short drive north of Greyleigh at Kiama. I photograph weddings here the way the day actually unfolds. Unposed, story-led, and honest. No stiff lineups, no shot list running the show.

Greyleigh is one of my favourite places to shoot on the South Coast. The old pink farm buildings, the wisteria, the open grounds rolling out to the paddocks. It all gives couples a backdrop that feels like theirs. My job is to stay out of the way and follow the real moments.

## Weddings at Greyleigh: what I love shooting

**The grounds.** The lawns and the stone walls give portraits room to breathe. There's no rush and no crowding, so the day stays relaxed and the photos stay natural.

**The pink barns and wisteria.** Greyleigh's buildings do half the work in portraits. In spring the wisteria is out, and it frames a couple without anyone having to pose for it.

**The light.** It stays soft here, even under cloud. That suits a documentary approach. I'm following the day, not waiting on a golden-hour window that the weather might not give you.

**Room for a loose reception.** The barn holds a party well. Some of my favourite Greyleigh frames are from late in the night, when everyone's stopped performing for the camera.
